A collection in turmoil III – Water Infrastructures within the Colonial Continuum

From 11 to 13 September, If Body hosts the workshop A collection in turmoil III – Water Infrastructures within the Colonial Continuum, the third chapter of a collaboration that began in 2022 as part of LOCALES’ Hidden Histories program, led by artist Adelita Husni Bey at the Museo Delle Civiltà.

The workshop picks up on the experiences drawn from its previous iterations: these focused on visits to the museum’s colonial collections and on the development of consciousness raising exercises in relation to the inner workings of the institution and the objects it stores. The third workshop turns its attention to the concept of infrastructure, with a focus on the administration of water resources in the contexts of colonialism and the current climate crisis in Libya. On this occasion, the artist and participants will inhabit the spaces of the Museo delle Civiltà to explore—through political and participatory theater—archival materials from the ISIAO and State Archives collections which highlight the relationship between the colonial continuum and water infrastructures, with a focus on the Libyan context.

Registration for the workshop are now closed.
