Soukaina Abrour
Storage Almost Full: the Clouds Have Fallen
On 26 June If Body opened Storage Almost Full: the Clouds Have Fallen, a solo exhibition by artist Soukaina Abrour.
The exhibition, presented at Lateral Roma, consists of an environmental installation that combines video, sound and textile elements.
The work is born out of a re-elaboration of fragments drawn from the artist’s digital archive, alternating traces of her personal experiences with materials found online, all of which have been selected and accumulated over time.By further deepening her inquiry into the construction of the self and of diasporic identity, both of which characterize Abrour’s practice, with this new body of work the artist explores the archive as a potential space and as speculative practice. In the process, the re-use, manipulation, and hybridization of visual documentation becomes a strategy for creative subversion, allowing for the proliferation of alternative narratives and fictions which enclose a desire to weave personal experience into a communal and collective dimension.
In Storage Almost Full: the Clouds Have Fallen, Abrour plunges into the divide between the artificial and real, pain and its catharsis, thus weaving narratives that open up autonomous spaces of possibility, working against the annihilation provoked by the brutality, negation and indifference that dominate contemporary societies.
The exhibition is open by appointment until Saturday 7 September 2024.
On Saturday Sept. 7, the exhibition will be open to the public from 5 to 8 p.m.
